Swimming Lessons - Year 3 & Year 4

Thursday, 04 June 2026

Swimming – Year 3 and Year 4 Monday 15th June 2026 – Friday 26th June 2026

You may be aware that as part of the National Curriculum, schools must offer pupils in KS2 the opportunity to take part in swimming lessons. Therefore, as in previous years, we have made the decision to house a ‘Pop Up’ swimming pool which will be situated on the KS1 playground.

The company will provide:

  • full pool set up,
  • Swimming teacher,
  • lifeguard and 5 and ½ hours per day teaching,
  • 10/2 ratio (as per Swim England recommendations) in the pool per 30 minutes
  • National Curriculum coverage.

The pool will be on site for a 2-week period where every pupil in Year 3 and Year 4 will go swimming every day. In order for all pupils to swim, they will need adequate equipment which will include:

  • A clean dry towel each day
  • Boys will need to wear swimming trunks or swimming shorts.
  • Girls will need a one-piece costume, not a bikini.
  • A swimming cap only if your child has long hair as we won’t be able to dry it.
  • Swimming goggles if they have written parental permission. If you require your child to wear goggles, please complete the form by clicking on this link and completing it by Friday 12th June 2026:

  • No earrings are permitted for swimming lessons. If your child cannot take their earrings out, they are not allowed to enter the water. The instructors will not allow the use of plasters or a swimming cap to cover the earrings.
  • Your child will also need verruca socks if he/she has a verruca. Alternatively, they may wear an ordinary sock to save this expense.
  • The instructors will also not allow children who suffer from asthma to enter the pool without their inhaler being present. If your child is not able to go swimming for medical reasons, can you please send a note to their class teacher explaining this.

The children will be provided with a changing facility and will be supervised by a member of Lakeside staff at all times. Once changed, they will then need to go outside to access the pool. To help with this, we ask that you also provide:

  • A spare set of footwear (trainers/crocs/sliders etc.) for accessing the pool area
  • A coat/dressing gown/Oodie to go from changing rooms to the pool

As Year 3 will be swimming first at the start of the day, we ask that where possible, all pupils arrive at school with their swimwear on underneath their uniform. This will help speed up changing.

If you have any questions regarding school swimming, please do not hesitate to contact the office.

Yours sincerely

Mr N. Probert (Headteacher)
